Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Mind numbing weight: Lifted!

I caught a virus, that over time, stopped me from doing almost anything. I used my savings, then 0% Creditcard offers, to keep my life as normal as possible. The 0% offers started to end; and I couldn’t finance my monthly outgoings! The CC interest went from 0 to 20%+ in days. Instead of healthy savings, i had an out of control debt. Suddenly, I missed my Mortgage payment by 47p! I received a message from my bank. I was numb. They gave me a number to ring. After a detailed questionnaire, they recommended I contact a Debt charity. I rang StepChange and was greeted by a person who really wanted to help resolve my issues. Every time I contact them, I am treated as a person more important than them! It is a massively humbling experience, but the relationship becomes like family. I continually receive information and advice, but it’s not intrusive. They recognise, that a general email; can be written and sent to a broad spectrum of people; where the details can be treated as specific to You or just general information. Understanding.

I was very agitated when I contacted step change. I had just been diagnosed with cancer on top of financial difficulties. They put you at ease straight away and you feel you are not alone. They get straight on to helping you sort stuff out and help with advice in contacting creditors. You then have time to sort out your best options with step change helping all the way. Amazingly helpful and non-judgmental

My biggest regret is that I didn't contact Step Change earlier. They saved my sanity and helped me through a really difficult time. Being non-judgmental was good as my partner had had cancer but it was amazing how many credit card companies I told this but still didn't want to help. Step change organisation.. a lfesaver after my life crashed into bureaucratic wall.

Serious Car accident in my past had impact on periods I could work followed by recovery time off I needed.. Gap in income came when Benefit payments needed to be recalculated.. No money to pay all the Bills and my explanation to sooo my departments not accepted.. Sleepless nights & depression followed. I feared Court action and prison. Communication at deadlock until 1 dark cold wet night, my call to Step change, by the Grace Of God, was immediately answered. They lifted the weight of anxiety if my shoulders. Acted as Mediator ensuring satisfactory and manageble payment arrangement between myself and all creditors, put in place.. Their Lifesaving calculation system has continued to be the anchor for my Mental, Physical & Financial exsistance. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2020
