Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Great Service

The advisors were calm, polite, and genuinely understanding. From the moment the conversation started, they made me feel at ease and reassured me that I wasn’t being judged. What stood out the most was how open they were about their own experiences they even shared personal testimonies about situations they had faced and how debt management had helped them regain control. Hearing their stories made a huge difference. It reminded me that I wasn’t alone in this, and that many others had faced similar struggles and come through them successfully. Their empathy and honesty helped break down the stigma around financial difficulty and encouraged me to be honest about my own situation. When I was in serious debt over £20,000 I had no one to turn to. I felt ashamed, overwhelmed and hopeless. I heard an ad for step change on the radio and I made the initial call. Straight away from that first night in September 2021 I felt there was hope. For the first time in years I was being proactive.I felt so much support. Once Step Change stepped in most of my lenders became understanding and supportive too. now in June 2025 I’m debt free with only one default on credit file (Halifax £750 although all was repaid) my other lenders supported me and didn’t hold it against me. . Now I’m debt free with a credit rating of 909!!! I can’t praise Step Change enough. They really are an amazing charity!!! Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

A wise friend in troubled times

The call handler took time to review my case in detail to create a plan that was perfect for me. It’s great making one, affordable monthly payment and knowing that my debt is being well managed. THEY SAVED ME FROM BEING HOMELESS TO LIVING A GOOD LIFE AND SHOWING ME A WAY THAT I CAN HAVE LESS MONEY EAT GOOD FOOD AND FEEL SAFE OF ANYBODY TO COME AND TO TAKE ITEMS OUT OF MY HOME TO PAY BACK THE LOAN.
