Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

I have been supported by the charity for a number of years. I continue to be supported up to now. Debt is often long term and the charity have helped me to stay on track, The are nonjudgmental in approach this I find to be great in helping to keep on track with payment plans. You are not made to feel shame that you have debts or how long it may take to pay off those debts.I found that the Charity’s approach have helped me enormously to pay off half of debts owed to date. Best move I ever made.

Last year after "sticking my head in the sand" I realised I needed to do something to change the situation! I got in touch with Stepchange who formulated an action plan for me to sort out my finances with a repayment plan for my credit card debts. I cannot commend Stepchange enough for the excellent advice and help. Now days I sleep well at night and keep with in your budget. Reviewed on: 13th May 2026

Stepchange is a life changer.

I have been a client of Step change for many years, too many to be honest but they have been with me every step of the way. I would highly recommend them as what was important to me was they never judged, they gave me a way to pay back my creditors with a extremely professional, free and friendly advice. Being directed to step change due to a family member...

Being directed to step change due to a family member coercing me into car finance and never having any debt stepchange is nothing to feel embarresed about they are a massive helping hand and feeling reassured not to worry I have only positive words to say, thank you stepchange for helping me to get through an unpridicted time and never having debt to taking a load off my shoulders. I cannot recommend Step Change enough.

I cannot recommend Step Change enough. I buried my head for so long, feeling ashamed and embarrassed by my debt but the customer advisors were lovely and not at all judgy and quickly helped me get onto a Debt Management Plan. The relief I now feel makes me enjoy life again and not be afraid of the postman/woman. Knowing my finances are in hand. Reviewed on: 13th May 2026
