When I was at my lowest with worry and anxiousness, I turned first to Citizens Advice who were very helpful and passed me over to Stepchange. From the very first phone call to them, I felt a lot better and they got me into a positive frame of mind. £27k and drowning

I was in a state of panic when I phoned for help. I didn't know what to expect or how things were going to go forward. When they answered and assisted me through the process, it was like they lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I could actually breath again. StepChange helped me in a crisis.

Supporting an adult child on the autism spectrum who ran up terrifying debts impacted on my own finances. I used my own credit cards and bank loans to clear their debts, then my mortgage shot up during the Liz Truss premiership. StepChange set up payments with my with creditors, and it is a huge weight off my mind. Reviewed on: 13th May 2026

Peace of mind

Initial debt was immediately reconfigured into a manageable payment plan. Contact with StepChange was efficient and easy, giving excellent advice and adjusting payment plans as required. I have been supported by the charity for a number of years. I continue to be supported up to now. Debt is often long term and the charity have helped me to stay on track, The are nonjudgmental in approach this I find to be great in helping to keep on track with payment plans. You are not made to feel shame that you have debts or how long it may take to pay off those debts.I found that the Charity’s approach have helped me enormously to pay off half of debts owed to date. Best move I ever made.

Last year after "sticking my head in the sand" I realised I needed to do something to change the situation! I got in touch with Stepchange who formulated an action plan for me to sort out my finances with a repayment plan for my credit card debts.
