Great Advice - No Judgment!

Although I was well over retirement age, I had continued to work in order to pay off my credit card debts. Unfortunately, I had to give up work completely due to ill health before I had managed to clear them. My only income then was my state pension so I couldn't afford the repayments as the interest rates were so high. StepChange sorted out a Debt Repayment Plan for me which lowered my repayments to a manageable level over an extended period of time. The people I speak to at Stepchange are so sympathetic to my personal issues, so understanding and most of all patent. Stepchange has helped me enormasley with my heavy load of my depht and has made life more clearer and a reason for getting up in the morning...I truly don't know where I would be if Stepchange was introduced to me. Step Change changed my life!

After making silly decisions with money i fell into the downward spiral of borrowing more to consolidate debts only to use more credit. It got out of control and I felt physically ill with worry, as I couldn't afford all my repayments by this point. I was worried about debt collectors coming to the house and losing my home. I felt claustrophobic and panicking constantly about how i was going to get out of this huge hole I had dug myself into. Then one day i stumbled across an article online from someone who had turned their life around with the help of Step Change. I googled it and looked into how they can help me and the various options available for someone in my situation. It still took a lot of guts to call them, and i felt so ashamed as I reeled off the various debts and why/how I had taken them on. But the person I spoke to that day was empathetic and non-judgemental, she was respectful and kind and most importantly wanted to help me. We discussed my debt and the various options available to me, the one I chose suited my situation. Step change supported me in reaching out to my debtors with a budget plan and what i could afford to pay each month and asked them to freeze any interest. I have continued to pay my debt off this way through step change for nearly 8years. During that time this charity has continued to check my budgets regularly to ensure i have enough money to live and correspond with my debtors accordingly on my behalf. Every conversation I have with Step Change is a positive experience and all their staff are friendly non-judgemental and informative and trying to help as best they can. Struggling with my debt payments

I was struggling with the money I had going out, I contacted step change and they talked me through all my options without judgement. Process was easy and told me how to move forward. They were knowledgeable kind and caring.

They were knowledgeable kind and caring. They made me feel safe and secure. I felt threatened with all the bills that I had to pay and not enough money for essentials. I felt like a failure and incapable of looking after myself.
