I lost my job 5 years ago though I'll health which was a big shock as I was only 59 , I had built up a large debit though gambling etc, so I had to face up to the mess I was in and worse thing was I had to tell my wife , I then went on a downhill and end up at doctors in tears and a right mess ,my doctor told me about step change. I CAN SAY AFTER THE FIRST PHONE CALL I T TOOK THE PRESSURED OFF THEY WERE SO Helpful AND POLITE AND NON Judgemental THEY MADE ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF AND FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HELPFUL AND HAS HELP ME THOUGH THIS ROUGH TIME Reviewed on: 7th May 2026

3 years ago I was unsure which way to turn it was swimming in debt always afraid to answer the phone or front door due to collection agency or bailiffs. A close family friend recommended a simple phone call to step change and from there the rest is history From the start they was friendly and professional went thru my mountain of debt and my income plus the outgoings and come up with a plan to help. I am pleased to say on the home stretch will only 15 months left until I am debt free and without the help from step change I would probably be still bearing my head in the sand hoping it will all go away Reviewed on: 7th May 2026

Helpful first step for managing debt

StepChange provided a clear and easy-to-follow process for reviewing debt and household finances. The online budget tool helped us understand where money was being spent and showed the available options in a structured way. The information was helpful and the system explained the different debt solutions clearly, especially the Debt Management Plan option. It was also reassuring that they considered vulnerability and health circumstances during the assessment. Reviewed on: 7th May 2026

In 2018 I had 3 overdrafts to the limit 3 Loans and 3 credit cards to the limit whatever went into.m bank covered the last bill NOW IN 2026 ALTHOUGH I STILL have a time to go No overdrafts No loans . It hasn't been easy. But I have paid at least 2 full bills off step change are fabulous. Helped me go through all bills and helped each year with a review.
