Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I was worrying about debt, then heard about step change, hesitated for a few weeks kept thinking about it and then contacted them. Very helpful and understanding staff, I no longer feel alone when dealing with my debt, I feel so much calmer and happy with the resolution that we came to together, with a payment plan that I can manage, staff liaise with all my creditors so I don't have to. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

Take back control

Making the first phone call was the hardest step. I was embarrassed and scared about the mess we'd got into with our finances. The call handler was friendly and reassuring and I never felt judged. Our options were explained carefully and the final decision was ours. Our DMP was created with us, taking into account the size of our family and realistic living. It's been a long road paying it but the end is in sight and we've still managed to live. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025
