When I had to give up nursing when the pandemic hit, I was in dire straits as I had been using my credit cards quite a lot. My income fell by 2/3rds, and my bank suggested I contact Stepchange. They helped me to prioritise my finances, reduce my outgoings and pay a little each month to pay off my credit cards. The people I spoke to at Stepchangewere empathic, non-judgemental and offered the advice I needed to make the change from not being able to see way out of my debt, to handling it and not having to worry about it so much. I was distraught about my huge debt and in a very dark place. I felt overwhelmed and also embarrassed that things had got so bad. I never meant to borrow more than I could afford to pay back. But my circumstances in life changed and I tried to manage it myself until I couldn’t see a way out. Almost 20 k in debt .

Almost 20 k in debt . I luckily found out about step change with their help and advice. I am repaying my debt , interest on credits cards stopped and phone calls from different credit cards companies/ debt collectors.
