Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Debt management

I did not know what to do I was that much in debt I let my finances take over my life I was not in control any more could not sleep me and the wife we're arguing all the time and the kid felt it we were robbing Peter to pay Paul it got to much that I tried to end it all until my brother in law recommend me to get in touch with stepchange I'm glad I did because they took cair of everything for me they phoned up my debts for me and now my finances are BK on track the wait is lifted of my shoulders and family are great againg so thank you stepchange and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is financially difficult Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

I was swamped with credit card debt!

I was swamped with credit card debt, the minimum payments kept getting bigger and the interest was cancelling out my payments. I was getting no where with asking for help from the creditors. Step change has taken all the stress away and now with affordable monthly payments and interest stopped I can actually see my debt going down. It's a massive relief. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

I had got myself into quite a bit of debt for which I was paying back with extortionate interest rates! I was falling further and further behind with payments, I was losing sleep and making myself sick with worry over it. I saw an advert for StepChange and after a lot of dithering I gave them a call. I am so glad I did, I actually faced up to my problems for the first time and although I was horrified by how much I actually owed, I did feel that it was the first step to getting sorted. The advisor went through all my incoming and outgoing money, suggesting ways to cut back and cancel unnecessary subscriptions etc. After we had all the information we agreed on an affordable amount for me to pay off my debts. I now only have one monthly payment instead of six or seven different payments going out. It has certainly put my mind at ease knowing my debts are being taken care of and I also have a date of woo will be debt free so that’s great to work towards. Excellent customer service and support.

I freak out whenever I get contacted about my finances. I’ve felt less alone working with stepchange. Although one of the companies I’m paying back have done nothing but bully me every month. That hasn’t stopped. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

StepChange took away all my worries.
