Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Best service ever!

Since day one I have received a brilliant service. When I struggled with updating my outgoings, one phone call and the agent was able to assist. I had to request a short payment break and they were really understanding and helpful. Their service is second to none and they are extremely emphatic. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

I had been struggling with my debt for over a year a...

I had been struggling with my debt for over a year and felt overwhelmed and stuck in a never ending cycle. StepChange helped me to make sense of my debts, create a budget and make a plan to get me debt free within a set timescale, they gave me some light at the end of what had become a very long and dark tunnel. The best thing I could have done.

The best thing I could have done. Unable to make the repayments on loans, car finance and overdrafts after COVID I was drowning and stressed. After an internet search I found Stepchange and after a bit of reading plucked of the courage and reached out. From that moment on stress has lifted, my debt is managed and repayments manageable. I am still embarrassed that I ended up hear but have told close family and friends who are supportive. Only negative is impact on credit score but there has to be consequence I guess. Hardship into Communal Support

I owe so much to the people who stood by me during my darkest days. Between my son’s autism and epilepsy, I reached a breaking point where my debts became overwhelming. The hardest part wasn't just the money—it was the guilt of feeling like I had betrayed the people who loaned me funds. Under any other circumstances, I would have never been in this position. StepChange didn't just give me a plan; they gave me empathy when I needed it most. My goal now is to use this journey to become a beacon of support for other autistic individuals and their families.
