Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

The online assessment tool was very easy to use, and the follow-up advice was tailored specifically to my situation. They helped me set up a Debt Management Plan that actually works for my income. A place that genuinely help stabilise lives

StepChange have genuinely helped me through some of the hardest periods of my life. Debt can impact every part of a person’s wellbeing mentally, emotionally and physically and sometimes people end up struggling because of trauma, life circumstances, neurodivergence, unexpected hardship or simply trying to survive. What has always stood out to me is the kindness and humanity of the staff. Every person I’ve spoken to over the years has treated me with patience, respect and care. I’ve never felt judged, rushed or looked down on, and that makes a huge difference when you’re already overwhelmed. There have occasionally been small administrative issues or moments of confusion, but overall the support has been invaluable and has genuinely reduced a huge amount of stress from my life. They make difficult situations feel more manageable and help people feel less alone while dealing with debt. I would absolutely recommend StepChange to anyone struggling financially.
