Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

The DMP allowed reduce my debt from £50k to £36k

By 2010, total debt of over £50,000 had resulted due to inventions, securing three of my UK Patents and running around dishonest businessmen in Canada, India, the UK and the USA. Due to my worsening illnesses. I had setup my debt management plan in June 2010 and due to specialist advice of this volunteerism staff with the former management of the public service "StepChange". Due to the the similar expertise of the present staff, I am able to keep on meeting my monthly repayments over the last 16 years out of my limited earned pension and still alive and have been providing for my respectable living in a rented accommodation. I entered into debt plan after a divorce when I was suddenly left financially on my own and unable to pay all my debts. It was a very hard time and stepchange gave me a lifeline to be able to manage and cope financially through an emotionally time in my life. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

Life changing

Don’t know where I’d be without StepChange. Non judgemental, friendly support when I was struggling after losing my job.
