Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

That first phone call will change your life

It feels like there is no way out, no release. You spend every single day praying the postman doesn't put letters through your door, keep getting missed calls on your phone, praying you don't get "That" knock on the door....Sound Familiar? This was me 3 years ago before I finally pushed myself to ask for help, That first phone call to step change was the hardest, most painful phone call I've ever made, but the person at the other end of the phone was so understanding, they listened to what I had to say, and after a few more phone calls backwards and forwards, they set me up With a Debt management plan, they spoke to all my creditors, and after a few weeks, the demanding letters stopped coming! The phone calls stopped! Very slowly but surely, my credit rating is creeping up. And it feels like the weight of the world has lifted. I promise that once you are past that first phone call, your life will change for the better. And trust me, if you think your balance of debt is high, they have heard of bigger amounts! I was drowning.

I was drowning. I reached out to Stepchange. Wasnt judged, and was helped to get my finances more manageable with a DRO. Lockdown and I'll health threw my husband and I into turmoil to pay an existing debt of a bank loan and credit card. They werent fortunes but we just werent able to find the monthly payments anymore. Step change were recommended by our bank so we decided to try. They were brilliant. So simple to follow instructions. Approachable and absolutely judgemental. They took all strainmoff us at every stage. Would recommend no one else if anyone is facing financial problems. Dont leave it until it's bad. Contact Stepchange as soon as possible. Benefits, debt and Stepchange

I was under crushing debts. They didn’t amount to more than £5000. But being on benefits is difficult to manage as is. When you add in debt, it can become distressing. My mental health was awful and I wasn’t sure how I would handle it. Stepchange were there to help with ever They calculated the debt and got in touch with all my debtors. We worked out an affordable plan and solution. All I had to do was guarantee that the money was in the account.
