Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

One phone call helped me to calm down my worries and see a solution to my financial situation, The advisor talked me through setting up a realistic budget and a payment plan that would take a lot of the stress away from me as I was beginning to think I would lose everything. My repayment was affordable and I was able to manage the situation I found myself in much better. Without stepchange I honestly don't know what I would have done. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
