Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I came out of work unexpectedly through illness, step change where there to talk to me every step of the way. They gave me advice on the different plans I could use for my debt and really helped to reduce the overwhelming burden I was feeling. You can review your budget and keep on track with payments by monthly statements. I have so far had a good experience with step change and I’m on track to have a future that’s debt free. Peace of mind.

Stepchange do not want to know how you got into debt nor do they judge. They help you to draw up a realistic budget and suggest items you may not have considered for future expenditure or where you may be able to cut back in order to achieve a manageable repayment figure or other possible routes to solve your dilemma. Step change helped me get out of a poor financial situation when I got furloughed due to covid and couldn't afford to repay things that I owed. They consolidated my creditors and made my monthly payments affordable. I am nearly completely clear of it all 5 years on. Reviewed on: 7th June 2025
