Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Finding debt freedom.

I fell into serious debt as the result of what someone else did. It was a real shock as i like to keep up to date and pay my accounts as soon as they fall due. Then I was not able to do that. Initially I found a company to manage payments but it cost me. Then I discovered StepChange. They stood as a buffer between me and my debtors. I sorted out how much I could afford to pay to my creditors and they sorted out the payments. There were no more phone calls from my debtors and I was able to have a more peaceful life. It took years, but at last, I made the final payment and my debtors were all satisfied. StepChange helped considerably in that I did not have to approach my debtors. I was always honest with StepChange and they certainly did their best for me. It is wonderful to know that my debts are now cleared and I don't have debts hanging over my head any more. The best thing I ever did was to contact them. My life is so much happier now, knowing I haven't got to worry about how I'm going to pay my bills.
