Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Excellent support during difficult times

StepChange helped me when I felt overwhelmed with debt and stress. They explained everything clearly, helped me create a realistic payment plan, and contacted my creditors for me. Since starting my DMP, several companies have frozen interest and stopped charges, which gave me breathing space and peace of mind. StepChange has literally changed my life.

StepChange has literally changed my life. I have gone from being an emotional mess, stressed out to someone who can now pay of my debts in a manageable amount each month without fear. The only thing I think they can improve is by having a clearer portal that tells you if your debts have accepted your DMP as I still get the occasional letter that panics me but I feel more able to deal with it now Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

Understanding but not patronising

Stepchange are understanding but not in a patronising way. it’s embarrassing admitting that you can’t handle your ££ effectively but Stepchange support you to get through it. If you miss a payment wt, it’s dealt with seriously but with kindness Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

Listened without judgement.

Listened without judgement. Offered an affordable plan, quickly and efficiently. No question sounded too silly for them and answered them all and explained things in full detail. I had to call a few times after plan was set up and didn’t have to hold on too long for call to be answered. The website has lots of information and is easy to use. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026

Step change has been amazing with me setting up a DM...

Step change has been amazing with me setting up a DM due to coming out of work through illness and disability issues. They really understood my anxiety with all this as I just cannot do things for myself anymore.
