Almost impossible to open an account! Old fashioned

almost impossible to open an account. Old fashioned and time consuming having to send ID backwards and forwards in the post even though they have checked the applicant and opened an account only to them 'not liking' the certified ID and asking for another! Unbelievable how this cant be uploaded on line! Its 2022 not 1902... Wasting customers time and getting them to jump through hoops and then writing letters saying youve got 5 days to re certify ID or we shut the account and youll have to start all over! If these do not meet our requirements we then ask you send us original or certified copies of the documents we require. I am sorry for any inconvenience this caused you. These are not our rules and we have no leeway in identifying people for anti-money laundering checks. We have an obligation to carry out full customer verification before we can open an account. Data Protection they call it - Madness !

NO common sense, initiative OR room for discretion. How many questions do they require for god's sake ... and it worsens, month on moth, year on year. Who on this crazy earth makes these decisions, writes the "rules" and decides what is to come next! We, as customers of any institution deserve more. Not against d.o.b. OR any personal asks BUT it has got so crazy, it's unreal. A final word on the subject, most EVERYONE feels the same, be it friends, family, colleagues .... you name it! Oh ... & they ALL know my name, first line address, post code + some, my date of birth & who I bank with - so what's the point of asking the obvious ........ criteria applied currently is annoyingly pointless, frustrating & my experience of today should be "lessons learnt", taken on board & not be replicated. UPDATE (07/11/2022 - 20:01:31) - Simply read the BAD reviews ..... & just look at their response, especially on the WB issue - apart from the "Blank tickets" that I later discovered, the FCA - yet another incompetent institution need to ACT on this one ... 0/10 what a pathetic response!!
