Being big is not always best!

I have been a life long member of the Chorley Building Society and was in attendance at a meeting some years ago now about the possible takeover of the Society by the Cheshire Building Society. It is, I believe, a great thing that the society was able to resist the proposed take over and it has been able to thrive form thereon as a 'small' independent provider with a prominent presence in the town, serving its customers well, yet also providing financial products to a national customer base. It really does show that such a model can work and the Chorley Building Society deserves a lot of credit for their achievement. I remember going for my first mortgage back in 1993/1994 and later on when I purchased my second home receiving good advice and help from the manager and I believe that the Society's continued focus on customer care and needs has enabled the Society to be one of the best in a very competitive financial services market place.
