Bicycle Accident

I had an accident with a bicycle pedal in May when holidaying in Spain. I thought that it would heal quickly and my July/August trip to Finland would not be affected. However, the wound did not heal well and I was still receiving daily treatment in the UK when my departure for Finland came around. I have an annual policy with Avanti and new that I would have to inform them of my situation in spite of making no claims on my travel policy (all my treatment in Spain was taken care of under my European Health Insurance Card - it won't be when Brexit takes place!). My GP confirmed that I was fit to travel to Finland although I would continue to require treatment for the wound (cleaning & dressing). The Avanti customer services representative contacted the insurance underwriters and confirmed that I could continue with the annual travel insurance without any increase in premium, although any claim relating to my Spanish bicycle accident would not be covered. I considered this to be fair. Again my European Health Insurance Card covered me for the treatment that I have been having in Finland (visiting local medical centre on alternate days), and the leg is finally getting better. Good Avanti customer representative, and sensible decision by the underwriters. Reviewed on: 31st July 2017

Straightforward and reliable.

I need travel insurance quickly when I was told that our River Cruise was definitely on. My husband has various health problems, but the operative that I spoke to was extremely patient and helpful. I had my quote and paid my money and all was well. The next day the travel agents phoned to say that my holiday had been cancelled! I telephoned Avanti immediately and explained the problem, but there was no problem and my money was refunded immediately. I will certainly use this company when I do go abroad next time.
