Mishap

My bank once added an additional 0 to the end of a standing order. Charged my account by an additional grand and I had to pay the fees because of this mistake. Reviewed on: 16th February 2016

Machines in Newport branch

I couldn't believe it when I went into the Newport, Gwent branch of Barclays last week, they've replaced all the cashiers with machines ! I consider myself quite computer savvy and it took me quite a while to pay in two cheques, feel very sorry for elderly customers not used to the age of technology. Bad experience. Really felt let down.

After leaving education and hoping to move onto a job, I decided to change my account to a Barclay's cash card account to get me started. After speaking to staff online I was told I was a credible candidate for this type of account. I therefore travelled to the bank (the nearest one was still pretty far from where I live) and was told that there was no way I could get this type of account because I didn't have proof of a address. Now, being a student living at home I didn't pay bills so didn't have my name on the rent slips. (Something they told me to provide!) They made it very difficult for me, and I found it quite uncomfortable (especially as this was all taking place in the foyer, amongst other customers). In the end I left, without an account and quite understandably upset! Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Inaccessability

Barclays , I have found recently are increasingly hard to contact , by any means . There response to any correspondence is incredibly slow. Though I have noticed they are VERY keen for me to sign up to Barclay card ! In addition the automation of their larger branches is an appalling experience . Aside from the complexity of attempting a range of actions, the bank seems to have not noticed that more people are using the two customer service employees as many problems or transactions are more complex than the system can deal with plus many just don't like or understand the automated system at all . I am now in branch much , much longer than previously . As even when the automated system can do what I want , the speed that I and also the automated teller can achieve is way slower than using the counter service . Reviewed on: 19th December 2015

The best I have ever banked with! The staff are so helpful from ordering your new card to getting refunds on transactions. I've had a card printed the same day, if I bring during the day there's no hold there someone there right away, the website and mobile banking is amazing. Reviewed on: 10th November 2015

Simple account for everyday needs.

Recently I opened a Barclays Cash Card account as a separate account to my main bank account from a different provide and also to be able to access my Barclays ISA online. The opening process was simply but took nearly 30 minutes and for this account has to be done in branch. The Barclays lady setting up the account though did try to sell me every extra possible from Life Insurance to Boiler cover even though I told here several times I only wanted the account so it gave me an online account and therefore be able to access my ISA. The account is very simple, no overdraft, no cheque book, just a debit card and can be opened with just £1. A few days after opening my debit card arrived and next day the PIN. All in all a good experience apart from the extra sales patter. Reviewed on: 26th August 2015

Horrible

I had almost 20,000 stolen from my savings account. I don't know how on earth this has happened because for a reason I don't ever use that account. Until recently I was getting skint, having a newborn baby costs a lot and I needed to pay rent, bills and food. This is not the first time it's happened either. My debit card got cloned just right about Christmas a couple of years ago. The security is not good at all. I can't trust this bank. Either bank. Merry Xmas. Reviewed on: 23rd December 2014
