A disgrace for the country, a disgrace for common people, a disgrace for customers. Had a white BMW 530 D through them that started having... A disgrace for the country, a disgrace for common people, a disgrace for customers. Had a white BMW 530 D through them that started having issues , for more than 3 months they driven me nuts , I had to take days off from work , spent a nearly £2000 , they passed me from one department to another, they broke their own agreement rules by lying that wear and tear is not down to them . The most disturbing, disgusting and dangerous company I came across and I had cars on lease for over 10 years but Close Brothers are nothing less than “ stay away people , please , for your own good “. Now they avoiding covering the costs I lost , they want money for excess miles , they ignoring they’re doing to my personal life and mental health, they just ignoring everything, they act like they did nothing and expect money from you . They communicate with you using mimecast just to make it more difficult. I will take them to Ombudsman and probably further If I could score them -10 I would but I will give them this kind of feedback on all media platforms. I run a small business and in 2023 I entered into a finance agreement with Close Brothers through Vanaways for two brand‑new Maxus Deliver 9 vehicles. From the start it has been a nightmare. Both vans arrived late and already damaged on the front bumpers and doors. Within weeks, one van developed a clutch and gearbox fault, went into the garage for repair, came out, and then blew its gearbox again. That van was off the road for around four months. The second van later developed the same gearbox fault. I was actually told to keep driving it until it failed — I refused to risk my team’s safety. Courtesy vehicles were only provided for the final nine weeks of that downtime. For the rest of the time, I had no choice but to hire vans at my own cost just to keep my business running. Between finance payments of £700+ VAT per van and hire costs of over £2,000 a month, I’ve been forced to pay thousands on top of a finance agreement for vehicles I cannot use. I formally rejected the vans in May 2024, but over a year later Close Brothers is still taking payments. This dispute has now dragged on for well over a year, during which time I’ve been passed from person to person with no real resolution. The only “solution” offered was via Vanaways — to hand the faulty vans back and start a brand‑new finance deal for replacements, with no refund of all the payments I’d already made. In plain terms, I would be paying twice, while Close Brothers and Vanaways protected their profits. This has nearly folded my company. I’ve carried the entire financial hit, while Close Brothers and Vanaways continue to be paid. If you’re reading this thinking about applying for finance with Close Brothers or Vanaways to help your small company: don’t. We had a fault with the window, one month into having the car as it was installed incorrectly by the garage. At this point I asked to reject the car as my footwell Was full of water and water was all over the electrics. Close brothers said i couldnt reject the car as i needed to let the garage repair. A year later we had 5 different faults with the car. I have sent over 18 separate emails to close brothers mentioning The repairs from the date of purchase have all been ignored. Now I am in a position where I have spent 3 grand on this car in repairs as they have ignored my pleas and our current state is that the car has been in the garage for 10 weeks no courtesy car has been provided .as another 2 grand repair is needed. The financial ombudsman has even made recommendations over 3 weeks ago that they have to provide me with my money back and collect the car and the finance agreement will stop. Yet again this company has failed to acknowledge this even going past the financial ombudsman deadline date and they continue to take my monthly payment I will even leave my complaint number so I don't get fobbed off again saying you can't find this compliant. Facts about my experience with Close Brothers: • I submitted an official complaint on August 29, 2024, but the company continuously delays responses and refuses to provide a final resolution. • They attempted to merge my complaint with an earlier one (April 2024) to avoid treating it as a separate case. • They failed to provide return documentation for my vehicle, despite closing the finance agreement. • They claim they cannot investigate my complaint due to a court case but provide no legal justification for this. • They failed to issue a final response letter, violating standard complaint handling rules. • My case is now in court and under review by the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), yet Close Brothers continues to obstruct the resolution process. FCA is already investigating Close Brothers over potential misconduct in vehicle financing. If you are considering financing with this company, be cautious – they may ignore your complaints and delay responses indefinitely. First off, their prices are extremely expensive, far higher than competitors for the same level of coverage. Trying to contact customer service is a nightmare. On multiple occasions, I was stuck in a queue for over two hours, and when I finally got through, no one could actually help me—just endless transferring and vague responses. I took out a policy in January, paying an £800 deposit, but when I decided to cancel just a month later, they charged me an extra £100, despite only being insured for one month! There was no clear explanation, just more frustration. To make things worse, their system is confusing and difficult to navigate, making even basic tasks unnecessarily complicated.
