Review of the Clydesdale Bank, Current Account:

Bank account with useful benefits

Clydesdale Bank Reward Account is an easy to use account with a decent app which includes allowing you to pay in cheques via the app without having to visit a branch. Reviewed on: 16th April 2021

This bank has always been great Reviewed on: 12th February 2016

website access not user user friendly & not enough local branches.

2
Too many loops to go through to gain access online. yes it's about security which is good but so much info to remember. not enough local branches. Reviewed on: 26th January 2016

More traditional mode of banking

The Clydesdale Bank current account is one of the less competitive bank accounts out there. It's customer service is average and it only fairly recently created a useful app. All accounts cannot be viewed together on the app. I have gone from using it on a daily basis to just keeping it as a stand-by account. I wouldn't really recommend it as a modern, adapting account. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Bad service all around

From sending me someone else's documents to making me wait weeks to speak to a member of staff, I've had consistently bad service from the Clydesdale. I had a current account with them for 8 years only to find out they hadn't completed the admin on their end so they had no record of my account. Trying to get that sorted was a gruelling, lengthy experience. Reviewed on: 24th December 2015

Can't beat this bank for friendliness and helpfulness.

I have been using the Clydesdale Bank for over 20 years, and have been very impressed with the way that I have been treated. Both the Branch staff and the Call Centre staff have always been extremely friendly and helpful. When I've needed advice, it's been given with a smile; when I've asked for an overdraft or an increase in overdraft, I've always been treated fairly and on the couple of occasions where I didn't get what I wanted, I was told why in a way that made me feel the bank actually had my long-term interests at heart. The Clydesdale's online banking, which I've recently started using, is a doddle to use and very, very convenient. Reviewed on: 3rd December 2015

Easy sign-up and onboarding! Top quality rewards

I was sceptical about switching since I didn't know how their internet banking worked. IB was vital for me as I don't live in Scotland. I made the switch based on the accounts rewards (£150 switch bonus and 2% in-credit interest). Best deal on the high street for low-to-medium balances,; trust me I ran the numbers. The sign up couldnt have been easier. All questions were answered on Twitter by the CB team, and once I was accepted the onboarding was really easy. The IB website is one of the best I used, behind only Lloyds Bank, but even better than Santander. I can say I'm very excited to be banking with them. Reviewed on: 23rd November 2015

Good but shame about the snail mail and long reference numbers

I recently switched my current account to Clydesdale and have now been with them approximately 3 months. To open the account I unfortunately could not carry this out online I had to call up, luckily I spoke to a very helpful and polite staff member who ran me through the process ensuring everything was understood but being aware of time and not taking up more of mine than was necessary. During opening I expressed my interest in switching an existing account from elsewhere, unfortunately this could not be actioned online or over the phone however all the documents arrived to me promptly after a few days for me to complete by hand and return with copies for my records. I was slightly concerned by the long hand nature of completing forms, & the forms to be returned were not as identifiable as I feel they could be (ie in order of identifying or title as mentioned & clearly shown) which resulted in me missing one form to be returned however they got on this very quickly to avoid any delays. Registration for online banking was relatively straight forward however to log in on a PC required me to remember a long unrelated reference number which I struggled with therefore often could not check items until at home with all my documentation available or would only view limited details on the mobile app to get a rough idea. I had also read about requiring a pass code gadget to carry out transfers over £300 which was not well detailed however I have found that through the mobile app this is not needed which is positive providing everything is set up. The switch itself was carried out promptly and on the date requested, which I had thought may be a stretch with having to return all the forms by post, with no problems for any reoccurring payments. Since opening I have had no need to contact them as everything has functioned smoothly, they did contact me to check my satisfaction which was a nice touch although a bit sales call ish however the comments I had and passed on during the call were accepted and I feel happy that they will be taken on board and considered in their operations. Overall a pleasant company to deal with who carry out requests promptly without any problems (in my dealings) but currently a little in the dark ages with paper forms that could result in misread writing but they are working to improve. I have scored them a 3 as in this day & age I really would expect to be able to open an account online & action a switch over the phone at a minimum. Reviewed on: 10th August 2015

I have never really had a problem with this bank

I recently got sent a new mastercard my previous card was a maestro card the letter didnt say why I had a new card so I tweetes then and got an explanation but I think they need to explain in the letters that they are fazing out maestro and that eventually everyone will get a mastercard Reviewed on: 9th August 2015

like all banks good and bad!

clydesdale bank has good and bad points! They are fast at sending out letters if you are going over your limit which is handy and they have a mobile app that is easy to work and you can do most actions on the app that you can do on the main website which is very handy. one downfall is that a lot of the local branches have closed down so you have to travel to find a branch. They also close early to and not many are open on saturdays which is very inconvenient if you work monday to friday. they are very helpful when you need help though and their chargers are now pretty low.
