They do not support vulnerable drivers. Liars. Thieves. Check my other reviews on Google and Trust pilot to see why. Left me stranded for a whole day on the most dangerous stretch of the M4.... Read more Reviewed on: 24th November 2025

Review of the Emergency Assist, Breakdown cover:

DO NOT USE!

1
DO NOT USE! Read the small print for their definition of ‘national recovery’ … it is very different to most companies! They seem to think that offering recovery to a local garage on a Sunday of a Bank Holiday weekend, when garages are shut for 2 days, is an acceptable recovery option for national recovery as part of Premium Policy cover! One call handler even told me that it was unlikely they could help due to it being a Bank Holiday weekend and because I was towing a trailer. Eventual recovery home cost me £625. I made a complaint and this was unsuccessfully resolved but during this process I had a look at the reviews, particularly the one-star reviews, on Trustpilot. There are thousands of people with similar experiences and these include many vulnerable, disabled and elderly individuals. I have read a lot of these reviews and it seems that nobody is offered anything other than recovery to a local garage, but many do not even get this. Reading through these reviews it seems like EA will ask a series of questions to prevent having to come out at all - for example they will ask people who are phoning in with battery issues whether they had the radio on prior to calling. If they have then they don't go out. If people want recovery support for flat tyres if they can establish that they hit a stone or a pothole, then again, they won't go out as they say it's an accident and they are not covered. If people have used them previously, they will say it's the same fault, even with proof it's not, and again they won't go out. If people do get offered recovery to a local garage, many are saying they have to find that garage themselves! In an area they likely don’t know at all! EAs detail is all in the small print and people are missing this. As did I. I accept that legally they may be scraping by, but their advertising feels very misleading and disingenuous. Morally they are not fulfilling their commitment to customers. And the fact of the matter is they really do not care at all. It feels like the service is bordering on a scam. When you go on Trustpilot there are many five star reviews. However, if you look at these, they are mostly for purchase experience only including auto renewals. All of these people are yet to actually attempt to use the service! In addition, when I made my complaint, they sent me the call log with the full names of ALL the call handlers I spoke to, including the individual that part of the complaint specifically related to! Did they have consent to share this personal data with a complainant?! If not, then a breach of data protection can be added to the list too. Cheap breakdown cover is only cheap until you need to use it! While 2gether Insurance, who sell the policies, are regulated by the FOS, EA are unregulated. Other than a money claim in court, there is nowhere to escalate a complaint to, as I am sure many other people have discovered also. Give this company a wide berth and go to a well known company instead. Reviewed on: 10th May 2025

Breakdown Service Scammers

1
Just to advise that this company (Emergency Assist Ltd) is clearly a call centre scam operator in the Emergency Breakdown sector. I have been researching them since they left me stranded in the New Forest with a simple flat battery - this on their Premium Breakdown policy! I spoke to 4 operators and supervisors who all refused to send help, claiming 'human error'. This despite their listing stating '...our Premium with excess breakdown cover is specifically designed for the average motorist who wishes to be covered in every eventuality.’ Clearly not! They won't even come out for a simple jump start or refuel. Mine is far from the worst review I have since read about them. They are clearly just a call centre scam with no intention of sending help. Read their 1-star reviews on TrustPilot (not the fake 5-star ones they pay for) or visit their, seemingly unmoderated, Facebook page where it is clear that countless, vulnerable customers have been left in danger at the roadside. I am alerting Trading Standards, the Finacial Ombudsman, BBC Watchdog and anyone who might be interested. I suggest you all do the same. Drive safe! Reviewed on: 25th August 2023

Avoid, avoid, avoid!! Do not use. I gave it 1 star because review wouldn't allow me to give no stars. My father in law was rushed into hospital I followed the ambulance but unfortunately i got a puncture, phoned Emergency Assist and explained the situation they sent a recovery vehicle, which arrived 25 mins later, I was more than happy with the quick response, the guy turned up, I told him I had a puncture and needed my wheel changing. This guy was totally out of his depth changing my wheel. He didn't even bring a jack with him or any tools to change my wheel he asked me if I had a jack and tools. He told me he forgot to bring his trolley jack and tools so he used my car jack. I told him I wasn't very confident the jack would take the weight of my car, he said don't worry it'll be fine. He removed my wheel and to my horror the jack slipped and brought my car crashing to the floor. He couldn't get the wheel back on as the car was now too low on the ground. The guy then said he would go home and bring a trolley jack and some tools with him. He went off home and some 30 mins later the guy phoned me and said he as got 3 Jack's but unfortunately one had a leak one, was had seized, and the other one was locked in his shed and he didn't have a key!! I told him this was totally unacceptable and not to come back to my car as he was out of his depth at changing a wheel. All this while my father in law was being rushed to hospital, my wife was extremely upset, we called my wife's breakdown service, the RAC, and they came out and sorted it within minutes. Unfortunately though, damage had been done to my car when it had fallen off tge jack and dropped onto the floor. Three hours to change my wheel what a joke! I emailed Emergency Assist and explained everything, my reply from them was they were sorry to hear this but it's nothing to do with them and to take my issues up with the recovery guy... unbelievable, as they had sent this guy out to me! They won't accept any responsibility. I paid Emergency Assist for road assistance and peace of mind but I was left in a worse situation than the initial instance... God only knows what would have happened if my wife was in the car on her own stuck in the middle of nowhere. This has got to be the worst breakdown service in the UK. I sent Emergency Assist a second email explaining they were the ones who had sent this guy out to me and they should resolve the situation and reimburse me. I still haven't received a reply to my second submission some three weeks later. This company is a joke, please don't use them as they are totally useless and a waste of hard earned money!! ~Used to be competent and good customer service, but recent attitude of staff i.e. rude, incompetent, unwilling to help and all about getting more money from your pocket are so disgusting and frustrating, have they been trained to rip people off too? they have excess and directing you to pay extra money if not they can not send someone to help you, all be done upfront if you can't, 'sorry' is their last word before putting the phone down leaving you alone and anxious. They need to prioritize their customers' welfare and not all about getting more profits/thinking ways of getting other income from their customers' pocket. Not trustworthy anymore. No star! Abominable service

1
My car would not start so I called for someone to come out. I was not aware that my tax had run out due to moving house and I was charged £161 instead of the £30 excess. Even though I could pay the tax immediately, they wouldn't budge. The mechanic arrives, takes 2 minutes to look at the engine and decides the battery is at fault. Jump-start the car but doesn't look at anything else. The car doesn't want to start up again without the jump leads but he says the alternator is fine, it just needs a new battery and I can drive to a garage to buy one. So I take the car and on the way the car completely breaks down. No power, nothing. I phone them again, obviously the mechanic has made a mistake and now I'm stranded, in a dangerous place. To my surprise and astonishment they didn't want to know and wanted another few hundred pounds to come out again as they said they wouldn't come out for the same problem twice. But if the mechanic had checked properly he would have advised me that the car needed towing to a garage to be fixed, not driven. I was so disgusted with them, I called another company to tow the car, costing me another £150! They say they provide such fantastic service but this is beyond abominable. Avoid!

Sadly my last encounter was appalling. They are helpful with a one off incident, but I happened to have two completely separate occurrences, one the battery (on Christmas Eve), the other the distributor cap. They refused to come out on the second call as I had not taken my car to a garage on Christmas Eve - despite no garage being open for several days by that point! I had the same garage attend both call outs (as soon as they were open after the Christmas break), and they also confirmed the incidences were completely unrelated, but Emergency Assist refuse to refund the £150 for recovery that I should not have been charged. I'd recommend spending a little more on a reputable company Reviewed on: 19th April 2022
