Good old fashioned service .

Good old fashioned service brought up to date.It’s great to visit a branch and speak to knowledgeable people.This is very important to me and my family and is why we are customers of the Hanley Reviewed on: 7th March 2026

My Branch (Longton) can not be faulted in my opinion.

Joint account problem

The problem is we have a joint account and joint account and only one of us can transfer money at any time. Every time we visit one has to re register. It's very poor. I would add that the staff are brilliant and it's not their fault but a system upgrade is needed or else we may need to change. Surely this should be easy? Reviewed on: 6th March 2026

I was able to close my accounts, and the staff membe...

I was able to close my accounts, and the staff member was lovely. What I don’t like : I wasn’t given an option to have the funds transferred electronically (so I had to visit the bank I wanted the money to go in); I have to wait for a couple of weeks to have an appointment to open a new account with a better rate of interest; AND I saw a friend in there, who had lost her husband and ONLY a because of the Hanley Economic, she has to pay someone to apply for probate as this building society has a very small threshold for allowing bereaved people to access money without going through probate. I feel this is somewhat antiquated and unfair. Reviewed on: 6th March 2026

Competitive Product but took a while to set up

Took a lot of time and effort to set up the new account and closing the ancient one was also a cumbersome and slow process. The new account was competitive and it was worthwhile jumping through the hoops in the end. Hopefully things will be smoother in future. Reviewed on: 6th March 2026
