From start to finish Jane was polite professional and courteous I think people find house buying and mortgage application a stressful time, we were privileged to have Jane appointed for our adviser the advice and service she provided was exemplary.
If this sort of professionalism and knowledge was delivered as standard in everyday life we would all be a lot richer for the experience.

I think that sometimes people forget - in this age of faceless online application processes - that it’s often the people that make these experiences better, supported by good IT; not the other way around.

Note to the website administrator. My review below was left on 23rd May 2019 at around 7pm and is a true and accurate account of a recent experience. Today I have found that you have removed my review without any given reason? If you have any doubts over the authenticity of my review or if it breaches any of your review policy’s then please contact me by email and I will provide you with the telephone recordings to support what I have said or I can amend the review for full compliance.

For those who are interested, here is my original review:

I had spoken to Kathrine on 21st May 2019, she had arranged a telephone appointment between Mark Watson who is said to be a mortgage advisor and myself for 23rd May 2019 at 9:30am. At 9:40am on 23rd May 2019 I phoned the Hanley and spoke to Sherrie, she advised that she had spoken to Mark and that I should put the ‘phone down’ as he was there ready and willing to call me ‘straight away’. It is now, at the time of writing this, over 9 hours from the mutually agreed telephone appointment and the promise of a call ‘straight away’ as advised by Sherrie, both of which, have not occurred! I would advise anyone considering using the Hanley for a mortgage to think again. It is of my opinion, that if they cannot honour a telephone appointment then what are the chances of them dealing with all other elements of the mortgage application and completion process in a timely and efficient manner? I personally cannot think of anything worse than having an offer to purchase, accepted on a property, only for it to fall through, due to the incompetence of the staff who represent the Hanley Economic Building Society. BE WARNED!

In your comments you have made further assurances that are factually incorrect!

Allow me to ‘assure you’ as a matter of ‘fact’ that I did post my review above on 23rd May 2019 and it WAS removed as described in my opening paragraph!

I can prove this fact with screen shots that were taken at the time of posting the review. The review was online and live before subsequently being removed.

So by trying to imply that I could be mistaken, that I have got myself ‘confused’ all because I left a Google review ‘as well’ bears no relevance to the removal of my original review.

My son applied for a mortgage with the Hanley as a first time buyer. Jane Longmore was his Mortgage Advisor. From my observations Jane explained the requirements and responsibilities of buying a home and guided my son through the various stages from application to approval. Buying a house is not straight forward but with the help of Jane and the obvious teamwork at the Hanley the various obstacles were overcome. My son has recently completed the purchase of his house and is delighted with the help that he received from the Hanley. Thank you very much.

Where to start? Began mortgage application 6 weeks ago with requests for various bits of paperwork. Every time we expected a valuation date before a formal mortgage offer was given more paperwork was chased even though much of it contained the same information they had already been provided with. After 5 weeks, I rang through to speak to the underwriter dealing with our application as was told she had gone off on sick and not sent through the paperwork to my place of employment after stating she would do it imminently. The case was passed on to a new underwriter who hadn’t updated herself with the case notes so didn’t have a clue what they were waiting for (ironic considering we didn’t either!) the following week it was assigned to yet another case worker who evidently only worked part time and wanted yet again, more paperwork. This was sent through and she stated she would review this within 24 hours. Not sure which clock she was going by but 5 days later she left us on hold for almost an hour and the office kept telling us she was on lunch (for almost 2 hours) and still wouldn’t return our call. In the end she declared she couldn’t help us even though our solicitors were waiting to complete pending formal mortgage offer! In the midst of this we were awaiting a date with 2 small children needing to move out of rented accommodation within the next 2 weeks. The amount of stress and anxiety caused by this absolute joke of a company is endless! Would never recommend, (text edited by Smart Money People).

I dealt with Lana. Initially I was concerned as it took a while to get a phone appointment, but once I did everything moved very quickly. I struggled finding a mortgage due to a high LTV with a new build property, but Lana and the Hanley came to my rescue. Lana was thorough, efficient and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and she answered any and all of my questions very quickly (usually within a couple of hours of asking them!) Lana was also super helpful at completion as my solicitor was dragging his feet and she made sure the Hanley sent over requested details super quickly allowing me to complete when needed. All in all, it was a pleasure to deal with Lana and the Hanley and I would recommend them.

They were always more than happy to help with queries from the very initial phone call right the way through to completion (and I had a lot of queries/questions/problems but I always felt they were more than happy to help and answer.) Just had to say a few words of thanks to the staff at 'The Hanley' for their patience, effort, understanding and good humour throughout my mortgage application. Not only was the mortgage product and associated insurance cover much better than anything else on the market; but the help, guidance and information provided was invaluable. There were a few occasions when it looked as though I would not be able to complete the application process but the staff never gave up and we are now building our house. I must give particular thanks to Jane Longmore who never gave up trying and ultimately succeeding in processing my application- were are truly grateful for all you have done. Thanks. If ever I have need of a mortgage again my first call will be to the Hanley.

Over two months and not got an offer yet. They are apparently understaffed!!! The delay is not down to any fault my end - I have an excellent credit check score and a good job- but is just them asking for ridiculous info from years back. And I’m only remortgaging with them. I pity anyone looking for a mortgage to buy a property. They are way over the time scale they quoted for the offer. They might have some of the best deals but what good is that if they don’t make offers.

I had a bit of a unique situation regarding my mortgage being accepted, after dealing with various high street banks I spoke to The Hanley on recommendation.

From there on wards they took on board everything and found a solution that helped us going forward. I had excellent and professional service from start to finish, I received regular calls to see how everything was moving along which show they care about their clients they have and want you to help wherever needed.

I will happily recommend anyone to use The Hanley going forward.

I'd just like to thank everyone at The Hanley and especially Jane Longmore for the amazing service I received over my process.

We received an absolutely fantastic and professional service from the Hanley - In particular our mortgage advisor Lana.

After a bad experience with a high street bank we approached the Hanley and can not fault the experience in any way. We were kept up to date, emails answered quickly and efficiently. Absolutely everything was easy and professional.

We have only just recently been approved for our mortgage with the Hanley, but from the start of the mortgage application process we have been pleased with the service. We have dealt with our advisor, Jane, right from the start and she has been friendly and helpful throughout. She helped us to navigate the information we needed to provide to make our application, and was with us all the way. We chose the Hanley for its ethical credentials, and would now also choose them based on their customer focus too. Thank you to everyone involved in our application, especially Jane who worked so hard on our behalf.
