Whatever happened to community banking?

3
I spent close to an hour on the HSBC online chat facility trying to organise a face-to-face meeting with a business banker to discuss the terms of my business banking facility as there has just been a major change involving my business. When eventually I was put in contact with someone who could help (I use the word 'help' in the loosest possible terms) they said the soonest I could have a meeting was in mid-August, but it could not be at my own Branch (which has just undergone a massive and no doubt expensive refit to make it more customer 'un'friendly) and so I would have to go to another branch almost 20 miles away from me. I said I could not do August because I will be away and asked for a later date. They said they could not give me one because they have not got the availability dates for beyond that yet but if I got back in contact in September (using the chat facility again) they could book me one then!!!! Whatever happened to community banking? And I have another story about my own refurbished branch when they cocked something up. When visiting the branch for the umpteenth time in person while trying to sort out their mess I asked if someone could call me when some paperwork was ready, rather than me having to keep going back to the bank to check. The answer was ‘no’ because, as I was informed… and you honestly could not make this up… 'the bank does not have a telephone anymore'. When I first opened an HSBC business account it was because they were advertising the fact they were dedicated to community banking, and to be fair, the service was absolutely fantastic. I could call in, often without an appointment, and if someone was free I could see them immediately. Oh how times have changed. Reviewed on: 19th July 2023

It should have worked but they didnt make it easy

I signed up for HSBC’s new self employed business account. The issue is it didn’t connect with my accounting software and was really difficult to use Reviewed on: 24th February 2023

Parish Council banking

3
Day to day transactions and business are easy but specific services for parish councils are very slow and dated. Forms need to be made available online and easy to navigate. Reviewed on: 8th March 2022

Outdated systems

3
Take too long to resolve issues and different departments not well connected to multiple contacts required and no ability to easily transfer between teams Reviewed on: 14th February 2022

New Account

Had a few difficulties opening a new Charity CIO account during Covid Reviewed on: 20th January 2022

Cost is rising

3
The monthly cost is rising and I'm considering moving my banking. As a small business, it would also be nice to have a branch locally but it closed down. Reviewed on: 14th January 2022

Charges free banking for community account

3
HSBC have never charged for a Community Account held with them for over 20 years. Have had no problems using internet banking and cashier services. Reviewed on: 30th June 2020

Little value add

3
We've never had a major issue, but the service can sometimes seem a little disjointed. No real effort is made to understand the business. It's just a transactional relationship that has been adequate to date. Reviewed on: 16th January 2017

Online Banking - Needs Improvement

3
I have had a business account with HSBC for a few years and also have bank accounts with two other banks. I use online banking at all three banks and find that HSBC online banking is nowhere near as user friendly as the others. The log in process is fiddly and inconvenient. Trying to find transactions that have been processed for a specific period is not easy and I am speaking as someone who has worked in the finance industry for many years. Come on HSBC look at making improvements to make it more user friendly. Reviewed on: 28th March 2016

A few negatives

3
The online access is easy, convenient and quick. However, we now use a third part for international payments due to the costs that can be incurred with our bank. Reviewed on: 5th February 2016
