Excellent service in Didcot

The staff in the Didcot branch were extremely helpful when opening a children’s account. Communication was clear, everyone we dealt with was very pleasant. Dealing with one person who took ownership throughout made a pleasant change from larger providers. One of the only financial institutions in the area offering accounts for babies/young children now. We can confirm that, to support a positive online customer experience, we allow an account to be provisionally opened and funds accepted prior to receipt of the signed application form. This approach enables the account to be opened and funded as quickly as possible to begin to earn interest. The account is not fully activated, until all required documentation has been received and validated. This ensures we continue to operate fully in line with HMRC ISA regulations whilst meeting customer expectations. Response date: 9th April 2026

A Masterclass in dealing with demanding customers

We needed help to set up three new ISA accounts and and Tasha (1100, 8th April, Basingstoke). The whole process took nearly an hour and involved a lot of work for Tasha. She also reacted knowledgeably and quickly when I asked questions. We were particularly impressed by the fact that we obviously wanted a lot done and, although she didn't know this until we sat down: she was helpful, cheerful and knowledgeable throughout. Newbury BS staff are always friendly and helpful but Tasha was exemplary this morning. Reviewed on: 8th April 2026

Confusing and awkward online service

I expected a fairly low-tech experience, and I thought I would be comfortable with that. However, the reality of applying for a savings account online was more frustrating than anticipated. The application process itself felt confusing and somewhat flawed. In particular, the information around making the initial deposit was misleading. It suggested that funds would be automatically taken from a nominated account once verification was complete, but in practice this didn’t happen and I had to arrange the payment manually. This inconsistency made the process feel unreliable. Once the account was open, things didn’t become much clearer. There’s very little guidance on how to actually manage the account. The leaflet mentions that you can operate it via branch, post, or online, but doesn’t explain how any of these options work in practice. For example, if you wanted to deposit cash in a branch, it’s unclear how you would do so without a card or passbook. There’s a general lack of practical, step-by-step information. Overall, the systems I’ve interacted with feel quite rudimentary—almost homemade—and that doesn’t inspire a great deal of confidence when it comes to managing money. That said, I haven’t been into a branch or had any direct interaction with customer service yet, so I can’t comment on staff helpfulness or how easy it is to get support. Hopefully that side of the experience is stronger than the digital and onboarding journey. Reviewed on: 17th March 2026

Unbeatable face to face service

Opening hours are fantastic on the high street. I can see a person face to face, they still have passbooks and have qualified savings advisers who are able to give advice, whether over the counter service or in a private office. Reviewed on: 12th March 2026
