Back office delays

Has taken six weeks to open and transfer an ISA due to NBS back office failures. Confusion as to whether NBS have funds or not. Have had to contact original ISA provider to resend information originally sent five weeks previously. Reviewed on: 9th March 2023

Slow to open account

Took a week to fully open the account. Confusing instructions regarding the need for a verfication code. My account was visible from day one despite the instruction 'If you are unable to see your savings accounts, this is because you have not yet entered your verification code. This is the final security check before you can manage your accounts and personal information online.' I tried twice to transfer money in and each time it was returned. However they did respond quickly when I messaged them about the problem, and their interest rates are competitive. Reviewed on: 8th March 2023

I have recently transferred my ISA from a High street Bank to the Newbury Building Society. At the same time, I opened a Welcome to Newbury savings account. My initial enquiries and scheduled meeting went well. It was a good process. Reviewed on: 4th March 2023

Far ...FAR!!... too slow to open savings account

It eventually took almost three weeks to open a simple savings account. During that time there was confusing email confirmations from you which led me to believe the account was open, but when I tried to transfer money into the account (using the details YOU provided) the money was returned, as the account did not exist (or was not fully opened?). I then had problems with online access being blocked (twice). The first time I was told it would be sorted and I would be notified (I assumed) the same day. Two days later, and still no access, I had to chase you for a resolution. I then discovered that the password is case sensitive (as they always are) but also the security word was case sensitive (this is very unusual and should be clearly stated at the login screen). I originally applied for the account on 6 February and received a letter confirming the account was open on 1st March. During this time, I was not prepared to wait any longer and opened a savings account with another bank. This was completed, and money showing on that account, within 16 hours (start to finish). I don’t want to hear about the difficulties you have with your 'manual' account handling process. This should be your concern and it should NEVER affect your customers. I suggest you fix it or lose more customers! Conclusion, I have placed £49,500 into a savings account with another bank and only £500 (i.e., the minimum) with you - NOT GOOD!! I wanted to support my local building society, but have serious concerns now. Reviewed on: 4th March 2023
