Efficient & Helpful Service

Having had savings accounts with Newbury Building Society for a year, we were contacted by the Alton Branch, advising us we were now eligible to open up an existing members savings account with very favourable interest rates. My wife and I took advantage of this offer and opened our accounts in the Alton Branch where we found the staff extremely friendly and obliging and left no stone unturned with information regarding our savings with Newbury Building Society. As a Newbury resident I had obviously known of Newbury Building Society for years, they had a great reputation for helping locals and people in the surrounding areas with mortgages and savings too etc, I already had an account at N B S but needed another for a lager amount of savings, only one place came to mind N B S, Stacey at the Newbury branch was very helpful, friendly and professional, and advised me on the right accounts to choose, thanks again for all your help at N B S, Jim. Excellent and friendly service from Winchester branch

Disappointing

Given that we have been savers (our own savings account plus 3 accounts for the grandchildren) and had always had good service from the NBS for over 50 years, we were highly disappointed with our recent 2 experiences. Firstly on Monday 6 December we arrived c 10am to join a queue of 3/4 people, which, by the time we left, in exasperation, having had no help or contact of any sort with any staff, 15 minutes later, the queue was 9 persons in length...and no-one had come out to see what was happening (despite one of the cashiers behind their desk having been asked for help). And the most embarrassing thing about the whole process, was that during this whole time we were there, an elderly gentleman was trying to deal with a monetry matter at top voice, with an assistant, who also spoke extremely loudly for the entire time: so that everyone could here every detail. . I do not wish to know other people's financial dealing and I'm absolutely sure I wouldn't want them to hear mine. The whole process made a nonsense of confidentially and your accountability as a financial organisation The assistant dealing with the gentlemen at no time made any attempt to deal with the growing queue or seek help for it in any way. We tried again on Tuesday 7th. We wished to set up an additional savings account. On this occasion we were the only customers there. We were asked to sit at the desk in the open reception area, and indicated our concerns (as above) about being in an open area (although there were no others there at the time) It was explained that these were COVID requirements but the was an office available if necessary but the window didn't open. As we thought we were not going to be long, we decided to stay where we were.. For some reason the whole process took ages, even though you have had all our contact details etc for over 40 years. Why did we have to sit for c 20mins watching details which you already had on your system being added to a new account. It does not appear that customers are your prior concern. Opening Savings Account

As an existing member - I was informed of the possibility of opening the Existing Members Account. I was able to open the account on-line and to arrange the transfer of funds from another provider to the new account within 3 working days. I was surprised however at the requirement to provide additional personal details even though I was an existing member for over 1 year. Reviewed on: 8th December 2021

Good product and service

The Existing Member account was easy enough to open online, and the confirming paperwork arrived quickly by post. It was a couple of days too early to qualify for the account but this was quickly pointed out via secure messaging and the account opened automatically on the relevant day. The interest rate is good in the present times, though the maximum deposit of £2000 per tax year is disappointingly low. Overall, pleased with the process and service received. Whenever I visit the Hungerford branch everybody is so cheerful and helpful . Pauline was very helpful when I wanted to open another account and didn't realise I should have made an appointment - excellent service as I have been refused such a transaction elsewhere when I hadn't pre booked .
