Waste of money!!!

We took a building and contents insurance thinking NFU was the best!! How wrong was I?? We bought an old manse so wanted to have it fully insured. After suffering a lot of damage during storm Arwin. We had exterior walls down and around 9 trees. The direction of the storm was very clear. The chimney in the direction of the storm damage came down during the storm. It’s taken over a year to get them to pay to have it repaired. A so called surveyor came from Crawford and co came to look at the damage. He looked from the garden for about 2 minutes before taking a picture and leaving. He could never of seen the damage to the roof it being a 3 story building. I then received an email saying it was wear and tear and wouldn’t cover it. I am still fighting them over this over a year later. I have spoken to so many people at NFU who told me different information. I was told at the least they would put a drown up to see the damage. I was also told they would contract another surveyor as the service from the previous one was so bad. The claim was meant to be escalated to senior staff. I received another letter today saying again they wouldn’t cover the damage same old same old. I can’t seem to talk to anyone involved with the decision . They are always on another call apparently. They have said I have to pay for my own contractor to access the storm damage! I thought that was their job?? It’s been a total nightmare! We live in an old house. It is in amazing condition but yes it’s old so they could say anything was wear and tear. What is the point of the insurance?? So it looks like I will have to pay for a contractor to tell them it was storm damage at my own cost. This is just a joke!! Are they really trying to say my chimney came down by chance during the worst storm in 40 years in this area? So it goes on…..Do yourself a favour avoid them!! My premium is over £200 a month now with what cover?? They were meant to be the best now it seems they are the worst! Reviewed on: 6th January 2023

We are very pleased with the service from NFU mutual as the actually take the time to understand you as a customer. They can be less competitive but they insure you properly and don't make claiming a difficulty. Reviewed on: 25th August 2024

Hassle free for a complicated house move

I was in the process of moving home but without going directly from one house to another. I already had home and contents insurance with NFU and after emails and phone calls readily answered I was able to continue cover for contents only for a short period of time. However, due to delays in securing the new property, I remained in contact with NFU and was able to extend the cover several times over. Phones and emails answered within very rewasonable times and helpful positive staff. Reviewed on: 24th August 2024

They're very good.

They're very good. They insure my home. I pay by direct debit. They're an insurance company that do insurance, and they insure me. I am insured by them. My home is not insured by anyone else. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024

Insurance You Can Rely On

I have had Building and Contents Insurance with NFU for 20 years. I needed an insurer with a flexible approach, as I live in a Barn Conversion where standard insurance cover simply didn't fit the bill. NFU were easy to talk to with a 'can do' approach both friendly and professional. With a loyalty bonus each year that makes me feel valued. Reviewed on: 24th August 2023

Personal, caring insurance provider

NFU have been our insurers for many years. The premium is very reasonable for the cover they provide, when we were running our own business from home & now we have retired. They are very flexible and will make alterations to the policy with a quick phone call. They remind us each year well before the renewal date and are happy to come out to see us to discuss any changes we might need. And on the rare occasions we have had to make a claim, they have been fair, prompt and helpful. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2023
