I’ve been using PayPal Credit as my go-to for online...

I’ve been using PayPal Credit as my go-to for online shopping for a couple of years now, and honestly, it’s been a bit of a lifesaver with a few major catches. The main reason I initially signed up was for their four-month interest-free offer on anything over £1000. Because I pay on time I have now reached £3000 credit. It’s perfect for those moments when life catches you off guard, like when my laptop suddenly died right before a busy work week. Instead of draining my savings all at once, I was able to buy a replacement immediately and split the payments across four months without paying a single penny extra. Plus, because it’s already hooked up to my regular PayPal account, checking out takes about two clicks. I don't have to go digging through my wallet for a physical card, and I still get the peace of mind from PayPal's usual buyer protection if a package gets lost in the mail. But you really have to be careful with how you use it. The biggest trap is how they handle interest. If you buy something big and don't pay off every single cent by the time that four-month window closes, they don't just charge you interest on what's left over. They retroactively charge you interest on the full, original price from the exact day you bought it. On top of that, their regular interest rate is incredibly high—way higher than my standard credit card—so using it for smaller purchases just isn't worth it. It’s also dangerously easy to overspend because it's right there at checkout, making it tempting to buy things you don't really need. At the end of the day, I really like having it in my digital wallet, but only because I treat it strictly as a short-term, interest-free tool. If you are organized, set calendar reminders, and always pay off your balance before the deadline, it’s fantastic. But if you're the type to just pay the bare minimum and carry a balance month-to-month, the interest charges will hurt your wallet fast. Reviewed on: 6th July 2026
