I have used the policy in practice better off calculator on numerous occassions to support my cutomers and demonstrate the financial benefit of finding work. I have observed noticable positive shifts in their mindsets as a result and consider this an essential tool. Reviewed on: 14th May 2025

The most comprehensive calculator available...

I have used Policy in Practice for a number of years, to support my customers to budget better, to claim benefits they may be entitled to but unaware of, and to see the benefits of moving into employment. I like the support that we get from the organisation, who are very quick to correct any glitches in the calculator that may arise, or suggest work-arounds in the meantime. Reviewed on: 14th May 2025

Having issues when dealing with a mixed age couple but aside from that, calculator runs pretty smoothly and normally correlates to what the client receives on legacy benefits. A Valuable Tool for Financial Clarity

5
I regularly use the Better Off Calculator by Policy in Practice as part of my role supporting participants on the Restart Scheme. It is an invaluable tool that helps clients clearly understand how starting or changing employment will affect their benefits and overall income. The calculator is user-friendly, accurate, and up to date with current welfare policies. It breaks down complex benefits information into clear visuals and simple comparisons, making it easier for participants to make informed decisions about work opportunities. The ability to model different scenarios, including part-time work, full-time roles, and changes in living arrangements, is particularly helpful. It also supports conversations around financial planning, budgeting, and removing perceived barriers to employment, which are essential when working with individuals who may be anxious about moving off benefits. For those with more complex situations (e.g. childcare, housing costs, disabilities), the tool still performs well and allows for tailored calculations. Overall, the Better Off Calculator is a reliable and effective resource that enhances the support I can offer participants. It promotes transparency, boosts confidence in employment decisions, and aligns well with the goals of the Restart Scheme. Reviewed on: 14th May 2025

I find the Better off Calculator to be a great tool to understanding the gap between benefits and potential earnings. It gives the individual great motivation to strive for better. The calculator is very straight forward and easy to use, I find great satisfaction of using it and getting results each time. Reviewed on: 14th May 2025

It is so easy to use and friendly as well.

It is so easy to use and friendly as well. I have used it to help my customers before so they can see how much better off they would be in work and convinced some of them, for single parents it put their mind at ease as to what grants they are still entitled to. Also the last bit where you can play with the hours and pay and see what you will be entitled to and how much better off you will be in work, it's my favourite part. I always say to my customers that is the "fun" part because it is for me. Reviewed on: 14th May 2025
