Great until you fall on hard times

Overall the customer service is above average. Branch staff have been fantastic. Low overdraft rates. My only issues with the bank is when your income changes. Constant hounding with calls and letters because the income you take in through your bank account is not high enough for them. On a basic account there is no minimum pay in amount yet RBS are now penalizing those that have lost jobs and have to survive on a lower income. Reviewed on: 11th February 2018

Whilst travelling RBS sent me a new bank card even though my current one had over 1 month on it before it expired. When i tried to use my current one i couldn't use it as they had stopped it as they had sent me a new one. Passed from pillar to post trying to sort it. Account now closed!! refuse to help

When you don't have a problem the bank is absolutely fine. However, when I asked them to reduced my overdraft because I no longer need it they have refused time and time again. I still have an overdraft because they won't reduce it. Also when we needed some documents certified by them for our mortgage they refused because our mortgage is from a different provider. I am in the process of looking for a different bank. Reviewed on: 11th February 2018

Laughed at when I said I was leaving

I'd been with RBS for about 20 years, through all their troubles, and never got anything extra for being loyal. When I told them I was leaving and getting £125 for switching, the teller laughed that I would leave for that (that's not to be sniffed at) and did nothing to try to change my mind. Ok but planning on moving

Every time I go into the local branch the staff are always welcoming and friendly but the bank accounts themselves aren't designed to keep customers. Having been with RBS all my life (approx 25 years) I'm just getting ready to leave, the reasons for this: £6 charge every time I go overdrawn by a few pence (with an arranged overdraft!) Poor linked savings accounts No interest at all applied to basic current accounts. Its a shame, as the local branch is very convenient with staff that can't do enough for you but they are limited to what they can do when the products on offer are so poor. In branch the staff are slow, I like the app.
