Saga offer three levels of car insurance for over 50s – Saga Standard, Saga Select and Saga Plus.

All policies have an uninsured driver promise protecting your no claims discount and no excess to pay if you're hit by an uninsured driver. Depending on the policy, there are extras you can add on to the policy to provide more protection.

Card renewal - bad practice

2 male operatives didn't give the correct information and the female operative tried her best but her boss has not deemed my complaint important enough to get back to me. I received a letter from Saga stating my credit card had expired and to ring them with new details. On giving the details of my card, immediate payment for my car insurance was taken from my bank account.At no time was I told this would happen and no one would cancel the payment which was not due for 3 another 3weeks. I was told to cancel it through my bank .They told me the payment was ",pending "so it couldn't be done and to go back to Saga. This practice should be made clear in their letter or by the operative before taking my card details. It has caused me financial embarrassment and disappointment as well 2hrs on the phone trying to deal with this..I will not be renewing my insurance with Saga next year for sure Reviewed on: 25th April 2023

Thankfully straightforward application....

Thankfully straightforward application and processing, Better, fairer pricing than about 5 others I examined. Then I unfortunately needed to change the date [I had already set a policy with another provider, By Miles - being so restricted I'd become uneasy - and found this one the next day or so - it hadn't come up before]. So I rang to switch - prompt, friendly and efficient responder - and unfortunately had to go through the same process to apply for a new policy. I was taken aback, I'd thought it would be easy just to change the date. Then price came up as £40 more. I accepted it but was miffed at this. At that point I had paid for three policies - no-one's fault, but had to wait several days for refunds, as stated though. All my doing! Overall a very good experience.. Reviewed on: 13th August 2025
