Good price and easy to buy BUT Good price and easy to buy BUT Sainsbury’s are not doing house insurance in the future (hence why a low “recommend to others” score. Reviewed on: 6th September 2025

Review of the Sainsburys Bank, Home insurance:

Absolutely appalling on all levels.

1
Whatever you do, do not get insurance via Sainsburys Bank. They lie Say they'll cover you, then casually decide not to Hold onto your money fraudulantly Have an incapable customer service department All have a different opinion of their own T&Cs Have shocking relationships with their underwriters And waste huge proportions of your time. Despite having a question on their sign-up form of 'will you be undertaking building works', you selecting 'yes' and them congratulating you that they'll cover you and merrily taking your money in full. When you then call them to inform them the building works are starting, they then say they don't cover you. Annoying but not the end of the world as they say they'll refund you the remainder of your policy given they are unable to provide the insurance service for you, and you'll be waived the cancellation fee. Cheque is on it's way to you... happy days. SIX MONTHS & 10 x 1.5 hour phone calls later, (prepare for call wait times of 40 minutes each time with the same one ghastly song playing over and over) still no cheque, and no customer service representative has any idea of previous conversations. Nor any authority to do anything. Nor can they access the call recordings they supposedly use for training purposes. I can assure you the grand total of ZERO training occurs at Sainsburys Bank. They then cheekily write a letter saying they've decided to close the policy six months later but you must pay them £25 for the privilege and no refund. It's fraudulent, a process riddled with lies & total incompetence. I wish zero stars was an option . Reviewed on: 10th January 2022

Had to make a claim, it was resolved well though it did take a little time as it was complex. Reviewed on: 5th September 2025

Very disappointed with two aspects of this insurance from Sainsbury’s (Davies Group). Firstly we lodged a claim for accidental damage to our TV over a month ago and had to chase this twice. The new for old policy is worthless. We were offered far less than the cost of the original TV, making the claim almost a waste of time after excess deductions. To make matters worse, we were offered I new quote for buildings and contents insurance to continue with Sainsbury’s at nearly double the cost to the previous year (from £650.92 up to £1087.08!). We did not renew! Reviewed on: 2nd September 2025

Trying for an hour to contact customer service, why so many different phone numbers, and continuos loop message to use online portal. Each call over 12 minutes long, and google play not listing sainsburys home insurance app. Reviewed on: 1st September 2025

Never take responsibility

I had home insurance with Sainsbury's, but when I tried to make a claim, I discovered that the underwriters were separate from Sainsbury's, which I wasn't aware of. Unfortunately, the underwriters were rude and did everything possible to avoid paying my claim. I would advise against purchasing insurance from Sainsbury's. Reviewed on: 21st July 2025

Betrayal after trust !

1
After years of using Sainsbury home insurance they cancelled renewal of my policy without giving any reason what so ever. I never made a claim or missed a payment and have an excellent credit rating. I’m totally baffled and angry at their treatment of me. No problem though I’m now with the Halifax and with a better deal. Reviewed on: 3rd July 2025

Who reads small print!

Who reads small print!? Well, an excess of £600 for a water leak! Won't cover cost of repair or to put right the cost of access to repair. So , basically not much is covered . Total rip off insurance so keep it at arms length. Reviewed on: 15th April 2025

Boiler repair claim

1
I claimed for a boiler repair which had to be dealt with urgently because of escaping water. I contacted the original installer who repaired the boiler. Because I failed to contact Sainsbury's Insurance prior to the boiler failure I am now left with a bill of £480 which Sainsbury's refuse to accept as a claim. I will never insure with Sainsbury;s Reviewed on: 14th March 2025
