Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Customer service is awful.

Customer service is awful. if you call them youll be stuck in a queue of 30+ people therefore having to wait atleast an hour or 2. If you email them youll be luck to get a reply within a month. Besides this issue its been smooth Reviewed on: 27th May 2025

I was really struggling and feeling overwhelmed.

I was really struggling and feeling overwhelmed. It was affecting my sleep and I was constantly stressed. After speaking to the very supportive staff and setting a payment plan up I immediately felt like a huge weigh had been lifted from me. All round excellence, from empathetic advice over the phone to clearly setting out the debt management plan and allowing you to track one's repayment progress. Lifts much of the pressure on individuals and leaves them recognising that they are not alone.
