Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Financial crisis

I left the Royal Marines in 2019 and found myself in a financial black hole. Not knowing what to do in terms of employment and having two young children to provide for as a single father. I found myself resorting to credit cards. Within 3 years I was £12000 in debt with no way out. Step Change helped me to assess my financial situation and provide immediate support by creating a payment plan whereby I could pay little and often allowing enough money to provide for my family. A lifeline for those in trouble

I cannot thank Step Change enough, they have changed my life with the help I have received from them in entering onto a debt management plan. They have helped me to break the cycle of getting into debt to pay debt with an affordable, monthly plan, which they have already amended in response to my landlord raising the rent by over £100! I've still got a way to go but I know that one day I'll be debt free, thanks to Step Change... Something I could never have envisaged before. Keep up the good work! Reviewed on: 13th July 2023
