Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Excellent empathetic service

I was in a very bad and worrying situation after paying for an unexpected funeral and I could not see any way out of my distressing situation . Non judgemental and supportive

I cannot put into words how this organisation has supported me and my husband. Each and every advisor I have spoken to have been consistent, supportive, knowledgable and most seriously have saved me, as at times I felt that the sleepness nights and constant worries of our debts were causing too much for me to bear on a day to day basis. Saved me from drowning!

A combination of ill-health and financial difficulties left me in a vicious circle of which I couldn’t see a way out. The advisors at StepChange patiently and compassionately listened to my issues and offered guidance as to how I could address the monetary problems, with the hope that this would have a benefit on my mental health. I have always felt that they have respected any decisions that I have made and given me that pert advice as to how best to tackle what seemed like an ocean of financial woes. Six months into a mutually agreed plan, I now have increased hope for the future- the problems remain and are worsened by current government policy but the charity have been an ally in my struggles, for which I am eternally grateful.
