I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

A number of years ago i got into debt. Without the help of stepchange i wouldnt have known which way to turn. The help and advise they gave helped me to get my debts under control. By the beginning of August i will be debt free its been a long road to follow but am now very happy , and i eill not get in that situation again. Reviewed on: 22nd July 2021

Saved my life

I suffered from a mental breakdown and was subsequently unfairly dismissed on the pretext of redundancy. I was thrown into a terrible state as I had financial commitments I could not meet. Citizens advise put me in touch with Step Change. All options on how to move forward were explored with me. Once we found a way to move forward Step Change took care of everything. We worked out a budget and what I had left to pay my creditors. I make a monthly payment by direct debit and Step Change do everything else for me and they deal with my creditors directly. This has given me the chance to recover from my illness and I am now seeking employment. It is not an exaggeration to say they saved my life. The people they employ are so well trained and seemed to understand the difficulties I was facing and they were so supportive. I receive regular emails on how to save and prepare for a rainy day etc. Reviewed on: 22nd July 2021

In control of my debt

After my income dropped by a large amount, I was really struggling to cope with my outgoings. Life was becoming very difficult and stressful. From the first time I contacted StepChange, it was such a relief; a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Excellent Service

I approached step change when having difficulties with debt. They explained my options and set up a debt management plan for me. I am now nearing the end of the plan and step change have been nothing but supportive and when i have needed advice there's has been excellent. Would recommend to anyone requiring debt advice. When l first rang Step Change l was so embarrassed and at an all time low l was made to feel l was not alone and was supported though the whole process of making a plan that would help us pay our debts with manageable payment some of the weight was taken from my shoulders by very professional unbiased people Reviewed on: 22nd July 2021
