Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Helpful and supportive.

Very helpful and gave good advice in what was an extremely stressful situation for myself. I felt quite embarrassed at having to get in touch but was put at ease and the process was not too bad at all. There IS help out there.

When my financial circumstances changed and I was inundated with debt collectors who bordered on becoming Parasites despite my being open and honest with them I reached out to StepChange who, in a matter of weeks, achieved a Debt repayment process that I was unable to do. A supportive helpful lifeline.

I was in a desperate financial situation and couldn’t see a way out , a friend told me about stepchange ani rang them . Th customer service was so so good , the lady was supportive, helpful and spent as much time as I needed discussing my situation. It was such a relief and they’ve given me hope. Spending out of control

After retiring I found my spending out of control as it no longer matched my pension income. Friendly non judgmental employees outlined a number of alternatives for me to consider ie bankruptcy, selling my home to pay debt off or 6 year repayment plan. I choose the last option and although it has been a harder option than the others I have only a year left before my debt is fully paid. Each year we complete a review of my income to ensure I can still manage my repayments or if it needs to be amended. Excellent service, thank you. Reviewed on: 27th May 2026
