Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

A lifesaving service

Family life-saver

From the first phone call I felt they had lifted a huge weight of my shoulders. After months of torment, I could breathe and sleep again knowing my finances were in control and my family would get through it. 15-years later and we are finally debt free all thanks to Step Change, I will be eternally grateful. Life changing moment

I contacted Step Change as I was in a financial mess. My health wasn’t good and I was only receiving statuary sick pay I was drowning in debt and my husband didn’t even know I had debt I couldn’t tell him either as he is a bit of a control freak and it wouldn’t have been good for myself. I thought the only way out of this was to end my own life I couldn’t see any way forward it was one of my debtors that told me of step change. I picked up the courage to call step change I was a nervous wreck on the phone I was crying and I was also very embarrassed about my stupidity in getting into debt in the first instance the wee girl on the phone was absolutely fantastic can’t even remember her name but what a credit to the company she handled my situation with ease and never once judged me. I felt I made a friend that day as I was definitely not in a good place or a good frame of mind I believe I am still alive today for that reason my husband still doesn’t know as I have a budget and I can make one realistic payment. I want to thank Step Change for saving my life and the reason I can write this review . Super heroes

After being recommended to them, they dealt with all the demanding letters, stopped all the persistent phone calls and made life more manageable. Help without judgement!

It was such a relief to sort out my £32,000 debt that I had been slowly sinking under. The person I spoke to checked I had the info ready they required before we started and then went through everything with me carefully. I wasn’t judged, there was no condescending voice, they made it clear they just wanted to help me deal with the situation in the best way possible for me personally. The online tools are helpful, the monthly statements keep you up to date with your progress and keep you on track and the regular emails are informative and often encouraging - it’s good to know you’re not the only one who’s in debt but you’re also not alone either and when you need help they are just a call away.
