Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Amazing

Professional & Friendly

I have used step change for 4 years and they are amazing. The yearly budget review helps keep you in the loop of your finances and the staff are very friendly that it's like talling to a friend on the phone. They offer advice on things you had no idea about and 100% of the money you have left to pay for your debts go on your debts no admin fee on top of it. The statements that they send show you how long you have u til you're debt free and they never judge you if you need to add another debt on to your account. Relief

2.5 years ago I was drowning in a sea of debt, credit cards, catalogues, loans, pay day loans Doorstep loans etc, like most in my situation I dreaded the phone ringing or the post arriving but what can you do ? You take out another payday loan just to get through the month don’t you ! One day, after 3 demand letters and 4 difficult phone calls I typed ‘debt help’ into google ......and the rest is history. This July (31st) I will be making my last payment to StepChange then I will be completely debt free. Until you do it you’ll never know how good it feels, that fist pump you give yourself every time you check you monthly statement and another one of your debts is cleared, From my first initial contact with StepChange I started to feel positive about my future, there’s no judgement, no difficult awkward explanations to make, just honest to goodness support & care. Non judgemental

I'd tried a couple of times to commit to a plan with Step Change, first time I just wasn't prepared to commit. They did not hassle me or send me a load of marketing emails or messages. So when I felt ready to try again a year later, I wasn't judged or treated differently. They gave me choices and confidence to make a decision guided by their expertise in helping people get out of debt. I am now starting my journey but the relief that I have, knowing that I have a realistic and achievable plan.. Well you just can't really put it into words. It's going to take a few years to clear my debt but I'm confident that I will and at the end of the plan, I will be in the best financial position of my entire adult life. Reviewed on: 30th May 2020
