Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

When you are in debt, you feel afraid and ashamed.

When you are in debt, you feel afraid and ashamed. The non-judgemental approach made it easier to be open with the debt. And the support that I have received makes me feel in control rather than afraid of what I owe. Reviewed on: 12th May 2026

Stepchange changed my life

Stepchange changed my life and lifted the shame I felt about the debt I had accrued helping my parents. I felt so worried that I couldn't pay off the debt but I approached Stepchange and they suggested many ways in which I could get myself back on track. Absolutely amazing in every way!

Absolutely amazing in every way! I have been using Stepchange for a few years now as my work hours had reduced due to a back injury and I couldn’t keep up with credit card payments, using Stepchange has allowed me to to put all debts into one affordable monthly direct debit and has taken a lot of stress of my shoulders.
