Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Escaping debt through financial coercion

In 2024, I got out of a financial coercive relationship. My partner had goaded me into gettting loans and shopping on a popular online catalogue. I was in a huge amount of debt and reached out to StepChange. They gave me the advice I needed and now I'm on a debt management plan and it has taken all of the worry off my shoulders. I now have better control of my finances and can even afford the odd treat for myself. I can't recommend them enough! Reviewed on: 9th May 2026

Supportive and Understanding During a Difficult Time

I was really anxious about dealing with my debts, but StepChange made the whole process much easier than I expected. They’ve been supportive, respectful and understanding throughout, especially when my income changed recently. Having a manageable plan in place has made a huge difference to my stress levels and helped me feel back in control of my finances again. Fantastic service!

3 years ago I realised I was beginning to struggle to make ends meet. I contacted my two daughters and went through things with them. My elder daughter works as a manager for the homeless and people struggling with their finances, she always recommends Stepchange and suggested the same to me. She and my younger daughter both helped me set up with yourselves, which was so easy to do and you were incredibly helpful.
