Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

From day one to present step change have been great friendly understanding if we have a problem , always listens and helps us and gives us options and explains everything and gives update every month with regards to debt . Life saving advice and practise

End of mortgage favourable terms and redundancy coincided with credit crunch. I was despondent about my future and had dark thoughts. Contacting StepChange was literally a lifesaver. When I had to give up nursing when the pandemic hit, I was in dire straits as I had been using my credit cards quite a lot. My income fell by 2/3rds, and my bank suggested I contact Stepchange. They helped me to prioritise my finances, reduce my outgoings and pay a little each month to pay off my credit cards. The people I spoke to at Stepchangewere empathic, non-judgemental and offered the advice I needed to make the change from not being able to see way out of my debt, to handling it and not having to worry about it so much.
