Supportive and Caring

Stepchange is the understanding, none criticising option for anyone who has unfortunately fell into debt I would sure recommend them. Reviewed on: 3rd August 2021

We contacted StepChange with considerable debt that was no longer manageable. Although we had not yet defaulted on any payments we knew the writing was on the wall if we e did nothing. We honestly thought we were going to lose everything. We dreaded the perceived shame and guilt. We contacted StrpChange although there were others that could have helped too. The important thing was making first contact. They took the time empathetically to listen where we were with things and offered what options were available to us. They explained them all thoroughly and with their help have given us the ability to live again within our means. 2.5 years later we now budget for all of our monthly outgoings and those that only happen annually. So instead of waiting to try to find the money the money is there to pay the bills. There budgeting advise even allows for saving a little and providing you are sensible in expectation they even allow for having a life with some enjoyment. The most important thing you can do is contact them as early as possible and not leave it too late. No matter what your position they can help you out and are with you throughout this journey. In Debt? The change is one Step away.

I had reached a point where my interest on credit card debt was so high that I couldn't work my way out of the situation, so at best I was only covering interest. I even had reached a point where I was failing to pay the minimum monthly payments. I had been in this situation for many years so my only regret is that I didn't know about Stepchange earlier. I could have recovered so much quicker but at least better late than never applied. It was the biggest weight off my shoulders I could ever have asked for. The help was amazing and the emotional and moral support priceless. Don't drown in silence because Stepchange are there to throw you a lifebelt and pull you to shore. You are not alone with debt problems. Stepchange will guide you through your darkest days and the light at the end of the tunnel will soon be visible. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

StepChange have, many times, made a very stressful p...

StepChange have, many times, made a very stressful period of my life bearable. They are always available to speak with and are there to advise on the best course of action for me to become debt free as soon as is manageable. The fact that they are a charity is amazing to me. Not unlike the RNLI or the Air Ambulances I really feel these charity run organisations should be supported better by the Government. You may feel that comparing a debt management organisation to emergency services is hyperbolic, but I do think StepChange saves lives. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
