Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Easy to speak to and non judgemental

The advisors are easy to speak to and explain all of your options so that you understand. They are not judgemental at all. When I decided which option I thought may be best they explained how and why this may not be the best option in my circumstances and recommended a different one which turned out to be much better. Step change helped me to get out of years of debt. Helping me to balance paying off my debt and still being able to pay my rent and bills. Step change helped me to assess my monthly budget to create what was realistic for me to pay off my debts each month. After 5 years I am debt free after owing over 20,000 pounds.
