Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

I could not have done this alone. Step change has helped me get my life and financial stability back on track. No judgement, just great support. My home life is in a good place along with my mental health. They have provided a clear affordable plan and maintain contact with me each month, but are there any time I need help. Great team. Changed my life for the better

I came to StepChange 4 years ago now on the back of some advice from a friend about potential services that could help me with my debts. I was skeptical that there was anything that I could do that wouldn't be completely negative towards my entire future due to social stigmas and understanding about debt management but StepChange took all of that worry away from me. The friendly staff members that I spoke to over the phone were more than welcoming to me and didn't just help me create a sustainable and lasting plan to help tackle and overcome my debts, they also helped me come to terms mentally with my debts and come to a place where I feel comfortable again regarding my finances. While I'm still working through my debts now, I know that when/if I have any questions, StepChange will be there to talk to me and support me in making the right decisions. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

.step change is a saviour

i been with step change now two years after the budget was set what i could afford to pay and all creditors details then they contacted them with an offer of re payments and not heard from any of them since i review my income and budget each year and the new re payment is sorted automatically i now have no worries wish i done this sooner i recommend anyone in trouble to do this Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
