Retaking control

You've come to the end of your tether, swamped by red letters and final notices. So phone StepChange - one of the best half hours of your life. They sort out what you spend on what, what you owe, what you can afford to pay back after allowances are made for the amount you need to live on. Then they sort out the repayments (through them) and companies listen to them whereas they wouldn't listen to you, because they have standing. And the best bit (apart from the relief of finally doing something positive about things) is that they're a charity and won't charge you a penny. Reviewed on: 23rd April 2017

Very helpful and reassuring servic

My experience with StepChange was very positive. They explained everything clearly and made the whole process easy to understand, with no pressure at all. They took the time to review my situation and offered options that suited me. The advisors were kind, patient, and professional. I felt much more in control and reassured after speaking with them. Best FREE debt management company

I was on a different dpm with another company and I wouldn’t be nearly out of debt if it wasn’t for stepchange, helped with all my creditors and on the right track. Get your life back

We were in debt and didn't know what to do,sleepless nights and a lot of worring, so after a long time we couldn't take anymore I went online to stepchange and they sorted everything out and took a lot of our shoulders,I would definitely recommend them and get your life back. The best thing to do if you feel buried in debt.

The best thing to do if you feel buried in debt and cannot see a way out is to get real help - Stepchange provided the forms to help me budget and fully assess my finances and came up with a plan to pay everything off within 4 years, contact all creditors on my behalf and get a plan agreed by all of them. With annual reviews and statements, I'm always up to date and managing everything again. One and a half years into the plan, £16k of debt is down to £9.2k and looking forward to being debt free, an outcome I never thought possible. The staff are friendly, honest and realistic in all their dealings and I can't recommend them highly enough. When I contacted Stepchange and set up a plan my whole perspective changed for the better - it literally changed my life. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
