Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

In 2019 I was facing crippling credit card debt and under stress. Step Change dealt with lenders, negotiated an interest freeze with most and set up an affordable payment. I have cleared three of the smaller creditors and am forecast to be free of debt in late 2027. Reviewed on: 7th June 2025

I was given peace of mind when I was at my most vuln...

I was given peace of mind when I was at my most vulnerable moment after I had a stroke. All the scary calls and letters stopped coming and a grace period of recovering from the stroke. Staff were very patient as was struggling with my speech and also very helpful. I was glad to have someone listening to my financial situation without patronising me.
